The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees negotiates a new contract with the university. The union has scheduled a collective bargaining meeting with the university on August 30, from 13.m to 17.m. at GC 1235, during which members hope to add to their contracts the need for a fair reason, meaning that an employee can only be fired if he or she has caused a fault. “Yes, it is already clear in the collective agreement that they will receive a raise, we also want our employees outside the unit to know that we appreciate them.” Below is a list of sites (or, in some cases, Facebook pages or other contacts) that belong to AAUP chapters and partners. Chapter sites are designed and maintained by the different chapters, and not all chapters have a website. Chapters that conduct collective bargaining are thus marked by the rating (CB). David Cowart, goalkeeper and president of afsCME, hopes to soon conclude an agreement with the university. The 2% increase and the 1% bonus have been part of the UFF collective agreement since 2011. The negotiation contracts of the Dade County Police Benevolent Association lieutenants and the Dade County Police Benevolent Association had agreed to the same increase for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Non-uniform workers are those who are not allowed to be part of the union, so they are not covered by the collective agreement. In Florida, even if he or she decides not to join the union, a worker who has an in-unit job is covered by the union contract.
According to Joann Cuesta-Gomez, director of labour relations in the Department of Human Resources, 49.68 percent of the university`s employees are active outside the unit. Within the university, there are five unions. Three of them had already provided for an equal increase for the same period of the year in their collective agreements. Yes. The FIU union is an open store, which means that each faculty member is covered by the collective agreement without becoming a member of the Union. But if everyone did it, there would be no Union. This is especially true now. We are now a separate unit for ourselves. We negotiate directly with the board of directors. We no longer have behind us the power of great national adherence to the negotiating table.
