We have collected some of the more commonly asked questions on this page. If you can't find your question here, please use the contact form at the bottom of the page, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
First of all we will want to find out about your main health concerns. We will also want to ask you some general questions about your health, so that we can build a holistic diagnosis focused around your main concerns. Then we will be able to work out an acupuncture treatment plan tailored to your individual needs, that may also include lifestyle recommendations (e.g. diet and exercise) to help you to maximise the benefits from your treatment.
If at all possible, we would advise wearing loose fitting clothing for your sessions. If this is not possible, we can use towels to cover you as appropriate if you need to remove any clothing. It is also advisable not to eat a large meal before your treatment, or to drink alcohol or strong caffeinated drinks that might interfere with your ability to relax during treatment.
Acupuncture is a traditional holistic therapy which has been practiced in China and other East Asian countries for thousands of years. Very thin, single use, sterile, disposable needles are inserted no more than a couple of millimetres under the skin. The needles will stimulate your body to start to rebalance itself and move towards a state of optimum health.
It is effective because it is a holistic therapy that addresses the cause of any disharmony as well as the symptoms. This means that as a result of your treatment, you will experience an overall improvement in the quality of your health as well as relief from symptoms.
The needles can elicit sensations like tingling, a sense of hot or cold, a slight pulling or dull achy sensations. After a treatment, people often feel relaxed but also energised. It is nothing like what you might expect based on previous experiences at the doctor or dentist, and is significantly less uncomfortable than that too.
All treatment sessions at the clinic are 45 minutes long. At the first appointment, this time is split roughly equally between consultation and treatment. For follow-up treatments, there will be a brief chat to find out how you have been since the previous treatment, followed by a full 40 minutes on the couch.
Any appointments cancelled with more than 24 hours notice will not be liable for a cancellation fee. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice may be charged the full rate at the discretion of the practitioner.
We accept cash and cheques at the clinic. If you want to pay by credit card you can use our online payment system.
There is no time limit on when pre-paid treatments can be used.
Pre-paid treatments are non-refundable, but they are transferable and can be used at any time.
